Today, we live in a time where technology is disrupting the way we consume news, as well as the way it is delivered. But this was equally true, 240 years ago, when James Augustus Hicky, a wild Irishman in Calcutta, started Asia’s first newspaper, Hicky’s Bengal Gazette, and created a disruption in the way news was delivered and consumed. At our Online Talk #BreakingNews, author and researcher Andrew Otis talks about India's first newspaper, its founder and editor James Augustus Hicky and the role he played in disrupting the British government in India, and why his uncompromising independence is important even today.
