How did Europeans at the time of Columbus and Copernicus understand the outline of India’s coast? How was India depicted in early European maps from the medieval era? How was the Indian conception of cartography different from the European tradition? At our Online Talk #CartographicaIndika, collectors Sangeeta and Ratnesh Mathur answer these questions though their collection of antiquarian maps and present a view of India through cartography.

About the presenters

Sangeeta & Ratnesh Mathur are a Delhi-based couple, who have previously lived in Mumbai. Avid collectors of prints & books on India, they eventually wish to curate their collections on towns in India in a new museum venture. Some of their collections on the Picture Postcards history of Indian towns from 1896 to 1947 have been showcased in a book ‘Picturesque India’ published by them two years back.
