Vaman Shridhar Apte, also known as Tatyasaheb, hailed from an orthodox Kokanastha Brahmin family. His was an unlikely success story in the world of business. Born and brought up in a Girgaon chawl, he went on to make a fortune in the Gujarati bastion of MJ Market as the sole selling agent for Kohinoor Mills’ textiles. He also became a film producer in the silent film era, producing over a hundred feature films, and working closely with Dadasaheb Phalke. He went on to further success as a leading industrialist with the founding of the Phaltan Sugar Works. On #Tatyasaheb, our first Walk The Book, his great-granddaughter and biographer Tejaswini Apte-Rahm takes us on a journey through Girgaon to trace his life and walks us through her book ‘Tatyasaheb: The Story of a Bombay Entrepreneur.’
Note: The ticket price includes a complimentary copy of the book. The walk is in aid of Khaki Heritage Foundation. The proceeds from the walk will fund heritage awareness, archiving and conservation. The walk will end with complimentary refreshments, book signing and interactions with the author between 11 and 12 pm at The Girgaum Kitchen.
